Jan van Munster's Ansatzpunkt, so sehr mit dem Energiethema ein konzeptioneller Aspekt nahe liegt, ist zunächst konkret und empirisch. Wer sich mit vielen seiner Arbeiten auseinandersetzt, kommt beispielsweise um die Rekonstruktion physikalischer Prozesse nicht herum. Wir sehen deshalb auch nicht allein die glitzernden, funkelnden Eiskristalle, nehmen nicht nur den schönen Schein des Eisstabes wahr, sondern auch den Kompressor, der den technischen Vorgang realisiert. Die Erzeugung bloßer ästhetischer Illusion ist dem Werk fremd. Das ästhetische Produkt wie der physikalische Weg, der es hervorbringt, beanspruchen die Aufmerksamkeit. Die Energie des physikalischen Prozesses kehrt in der Energie der künstlerischen Form wieder, die die Eisskulptur bestimmt. Durch sie wird das Unsichtbare sichtbar. Prof. Dr. Hermann Korte

Jan van Munster's starting point is first of all - although a conceptual aspect suggests itself - concrete and empirical. Whoever examines many of his works cannot, for example, close his eyes to the reconstuction of certain physical processes. Thus we do not only see the glittering, sparkling ice crystals, not only perceive the beautiful light of the ice-stick, but also the compressor realising the technical process. The creation of mere aesthetic illusion is foreign to the work's nature. The aesthetic product as well as the physical process creating it, ask for attention. The energy of the physical process returns in the energy of the artistic form determining the ice sculpture. It makes the invisible visible. Prof. Dr. Hermann Korte
